Benefits of the ugly cry

During my last post, I wrote about my mini mental breakdown last Thursday.
I’m happy to report that I’m all better now.
The outporing of sympathy was not only greatly appreciated, it lifted my spirits to heights usually only experienced after consumption of several consecutive chocolate bars.
Surprisingly, my husband Wayne was scared shitless very concerned about me.
I don’t cry. I certainly don’t cry around him.
So even though he was hoping to avoid the scene entirely by coming home from work later than usual, he was unsuccessful.
He tiptoed into the house, popped his head around the corner, took one look at my puffy eyes, red nose, and lack of supper – ’cause Ugly Cry automatically exempts you from cooking – and said ever so carefully (lest my head explode from any insensitive tone or comment) “You ok?”
At that point, I was.
But boy, what Ugly Cry will get you.
Ugly Cry got me ‘take-out’ supper.
It got me a reprieve from poop-scooping.
I didn’t have to fold one piece of laundry all weekend.
The kids were kept occupied so I could stow away in my bedroom and get homework done during daylight hours.
Wayne made me chicken soup (I’m thinking he figured it would cure post Ugly Cry depression).
No smart-ass comments were made when I ate the last cinnamon bun.
But the best part was Wayne’s supporting role in a video my oldest son made.
Normally there’s no way Wayne can be talked off the couch during a televised sporting event.
However, due to his intense fear of Ugly Cry making a second appearance, upon seeing the look of glee cross my face when I heard my son ask for his assistance on set, Wayne could not refuse.
Have a look at my son’s digital camera video directorial debut (he’s taking an independent film study class).

I’m very proud of Wayne’s superb acting job.
Did you notice how intense he looked? The determination in his eyes. The fear when he spotted the
teeny-tiny shooter hidden beside the bed.
Bravo!

On a different note, however, my son, the director, is very disappointed with me for not allowing him to use his father’s hunting riffle for his next epic sensation.
He said, -and I quote- “Mom, you’re crushing my dreams.”

My reaction to that is for an entirely different post.

Glad to read you're feeling better! Your son is a DOLL. Isn't it sad that it takes the ugly cry to get that kind of attention? Same thing in my house. HUG, Jill

I'm glad that you are feeling better! Sometimes an ugly cry is all you really need I guess.

I might employ this tactic tonight as I don't feel like cooking dinner or helping anyone with their homework. My family is jaded though – I think they'll see right through me. :)

I usually have to have a hospital stay involving general anesthesia to get that sort of attention and I'm still responsible for making the fucking phone call for take out.

I'm glad Wayne took one for the team and starred in the movie because really you with puffy eyes is something I would want to see. This is not called Absolutely Narcicissism for nothing.

Sometimes you just gotta let it out. and if there are rewards, well then so be it.

Your poor son, how can you crush his dreams like that. Lol

Okay, "Mom, you're crushing my dreams"? Seriously? Are you sure he's a budding director and not an actor??

Did you keep a straight face? Did you have to bite your tongue and think about the time Bambi's mom got shot to manage it?

Now I've got to find out what could have possibly upset you so. Reading backward is so confusing!

It almost makes the Ugly Cry worth it… the recovery treatment that is. It's usually the only way I can get nag free alone time while in my house.

My son once (during the summer when all the neighborhood could hear him) screamed at me at the top of his lungs "MURDERER!" Over and over. When I asked what I had killed, he responded, "My dreams". -J

I'm totally in love with your blog, by the way. I'm always hard-pressed to find someone who drops more f-bombs than I do! ;-) I plan to read back through your archives next week when I'm on vacation. Yeah, I'm kinda a loser like that…. :(

I am sorry you had the ugly cry last week. I am telling you we have too much in common I had the exact same thing on Tuesday of last week.SOmetimes, its just too damn much! And my husband, Wayne, came home this weekend from being out of town and tried to make it all better. No cooking, cleaning fro me plus he took the girls s hopping for my bday gift one day so I could be in peace and the other day he sent me off shopping for something fabulous to wear on my birthday…alone. I could actually try clothes on without tripping over little people. It was just what I needed! I hate the ugly cry. I actually watched the Last SOng on Wednesday to get all the crying out. It worked:) Big HUGS!!!!Love the video!

Glad your hubs took such good care of you! Your son is awesome! My oldest got a Flip for his birthday (I mean, he's 10 so…) and continuously makes Geico commercial remakes on it.

Oh you have a little Quentin Terintino on your hands there! Fantastic!!!

Now, about that ugly cry…I didn't read the prior post (oops) but can I just say that we deserve an ugly cry once in awhile. The burden of being a Mom, wife and going to school…I would ugly cry everyday…wait…I DO ugly cry everyday!!

    hang in there!

the only thing that video needs is a soundtrack we all know what a HUGE difference a kicking sound track can make ( see purple rain, or chicago for reference) Kudos and the males for picking up the proverbial dropped ball during ugly cry time. I can't do ugly cry anymore it sends me straight to migraine land or even to the pass out party hut. So have an ugly cry for me, enjoy your take out and hang in there.

Wayne sounds like a keeper. That was a cute, suspenseful little film. We all need a good solid ugly cry, followed by a break from all responsibilities, followed next by a good hearty dose or two hundred of chocolate, every now and again.

And yes, the ugly cry…My Manfriend/Fiancee provides the same treatment.

Always kinda sucky that you have to completely break down before you can catch a break.
